Start your Research
Looks like you're at this stage already of your Maldives planning. The earlier you start looking the better idea you'll have about what's available and the light and hotel prices you'll be looking at. This way you can spot a great deal when you see one and take advantage of it right away. You might want to sign up to newsletters from sites like Travelzoo that have new deals popping up all the time.
Set your Budget
Maldives can be a very expensive place if you just leave your budget to chance. Determining how much money you want to spend for your holiday before you even begin to book anything will give you a clear cut limitation on how you will get there and where to stay once you're there. Start a savings plan if necessary.
Are you planning to arrange it with a traveling agency? Are you going to book your own flight, pick and reserve accommodation and choose the itineraries yourself ? You can browse different travel websites and look for hard figures that say how much do you have to spend on the holiday.
By searching online and checking with travel agents you can check out the average prices including flight options, resorts and guest houses. Luckily there are booking sites like this one that group together similar accommodation types so you can compare apples with apples.
Know the reason why do you want to go to Maldives. Is it for fun, romance, family bonding or just to experience the place? Are you planning to go diving, canoeing, windsurfing or parasailing? This will affect your budget.
Book the Flights & Insurance
If in your research you found a great deal you might have already done this. If not, find the best deal for your budget after comparing flight websites and maybe even offers from a travel agent. There are tons of websites out there for potential deals as cheapflights, travelzoo, expedia, skyscanner. Take your time to check a few options so you don't pay too much. Don't forget to take out travel insurance with your travel agent or with an online company and read the terms of the insurance.
Book the Accommodation
For Maldives planning you're in the right place for that! We of course recommend our guest houses for a great experience and comfortable stay in the Maldives.
In general though, choosing accommodation can be a bit of a task but given enough time, you will be able to find one that fits your needs. There are countless options for resorts and guest houses in the country, almost all of them offer packages. Choose one that is most suitable to your requirements. Still, you have to decide a hotel based on your budget, activities available.
About 2 weeks prior to departure Start reaffirming your reservations and ensure that everything is in order. Consider the packing list (suggestions below) and make sure you pick up any missing items, considering those that you might not have just laying around the house. Must-bring items are sun cream, tropical insect repellent, a sun hat, swimwear and any required medications.
Days before departure Start packing everything you need to avoid stressing the night before. Consider the time difference and whether you might like to sleep on the plane. Plan to be at the airport 2 to 3 hours before your scheduled flight, you never know what kind of obstacles might pop up on the way to the airport. Use our checklist to make sure you don't forget any important items for your Maldives dream vacation!
